Summit Packaging: A global manufacturer growing in the Netherlands

Summit Packaging manufactures and distributes aerosol valves and actuators that millions of people use every day, often without noticing. Quality and continuity are central to the business, which is why Summit produces entirely in-house, from raw materials through to finished products. With millions of valves produced every month and constant investment in innovation, growth brings increasing demands on governance, reporting and oversight.

Summit has its roots in the United States. Founder Gordon Gilroy purchased a small factory in 1976 and transformed it into a global organisation with multiple branches and more than a thousand employees. Despite its scale, Summit retains a family culture and a strong commitment to its people, including a profit-sharing approach that applies across the organisation.

Summit expanded its activities in the Netherlands in the early 1990s. Remco Overeem joined the company in 1991, when the Dutch operation was being set up and expanded, and later became General Manager of Summit Europe in 2019. The Netherlands plays an important role in Summit’s European production footprint, with continued expansion of the Almere site to support growth, new production lines and new products.

Summit continues to invest in research and development to improve products and make production more efficient and more sustainable. The company operates highly advanced machinery and is expanding capacity to support further growth, including new product developments such as personalised actuator packages for customers.

In 2019, Summit started working with Visser & Visser. Our International Business team works closely with Summit on the auditing of its financial statements and on related tax and legal matters. For Summit’s management, it is reassuring to have a partner that not only performs the audit, but also provides timely signals when something requires attention.
